Philanthropy 2019-2020
Committee Members: Connie Bettencourt, Darlene Conklé, Jeanne Delver, Sandy Esterson, Susan Gray, Brenda Henderson, Trisha Johnson, Jan Schmidt, Judy Valen
Winter is hard if you do not have a place to live or proper clothing to stay warm. So, this December, we have the opportunity to help make life a little easier for children who are homeless.
For the last several years, Philanthropy has hosted a Holiday Boutique at our December luncheon featuring baked goods and craft items donated by our members. All proceeds from our sales will go to My New Red Shoes. Each year, school counselors report that often attendance drops in the K-8 grades during winter, because families can’t provide appropriate shoes or clothing to keep their children warm.
There are multiple ways to help:
• Contribute to our baked goods sale by bringing your items priced to sell.
• Donate a handcrafted item like a scarf or hat or note cards priced to sell.
• Make a donation by check in the RED envelope at each table made out to “Newcomers Welcome Club.”
• Bring a pair of shoes
• Shop at our wonderful Boutique (Checks or Cash)
We ask that you take your items home if they do not sell. Anything that remains, we will donate to William Temple House, our previous non-profit partner.
This year we are fortunate to have a new member who has been a pewter smith since 1986. She is bringing the following items to our Boutique and donating a portion of the sales to My New Red Shoes.
• Pewter ornaments and nativities
• Pewter coffee scoops, tea bag holders
• Condiment servers and measuring spoons
• Pewter key chains
• Tea Towels
• Aprons
Stop by and see the results of her skilled workmanship.
And if you would rather shop from home, you may access the Amazon wish list for My New Red Shoes at www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2V4V9398R8QJI?ref=wl
Please join us in supporting local students. We wish each of you a peaceful and healthy holiday season.
